Product Description
A lovely sweater with 6 leaf motifs, sitting on 6 graduating stalks, which stand out beautifully against the reverse stocking stitch background. The yarn used for my sample was a lovely pure wool from Rico, but it would work equally well in a cotton or cotton mix yarn too.

Graduated Leaves 360 Knitted Top by Pat Menchini
What is Being Made
Graduated Leaves 360 is a knitted top designed by Pat Menchini, available in five size options to fit bust measurements from 76-81 cm (30-32 inches) up to 117-122 cm (46-48 inches). The finished garment features an actual bust measurement of approximately 92 to 132 cm (36¼ to 52 inches) depending on the size chosen. The top includes sleeve shaping with sleeve lengths ranging from 18 to 20 cm (7 to 8 inches), and length to shoulder shaping varies from 56 to 60 cm (22 to 23¾ inches) across the size range.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a knitting project suitable for intermediate-level knitters. The design employs a combination of flat and circular needle techniques, utilizing both straight needles and double-pointed needles to construct the garment.
Stitches and Construction Methods
The pattern is worked primarily in stockinette stitch (st-st), which forms the foundation fabric of this top. The name "Graduated Leaves" suggests the incorporation of leaf-motif design elements that likely progress or graduate in size or complexity throughout the garment. Construction involves shaping at the bust and shoulders to create a fitted silhouette.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The project uses Rico Essentials Merino DK yarn in the shade Berry (15). DK weight yarn is a lightweight option ideal for creating garments with good drape and definition. Yarn requirements range from 8 to 11 balls of 50g (approximately 120 metres or 131 yards per ball), depending on the size being knitted.
Needles and Tools
- One pair of 3.25 mm (UK 10, US 3) straight knitting needles
- One pair of 4 mm (UK 8, US 6) straight knitting needles
- One set of four 3.25 mm (UK 10, US 3) double-pointed needles for circular sections
Tension and Gauge
The pattern requires a tension of 22 stitches and 28 rows to 10 cm (4 inches) measured over stockinette stitch using 4 mm needles. Achieving correct tension is essential before beginning the project; knitters should adjust needle size accordingly if their tension is too loose or too tight.
Pattern Format
Graduated Leaves 360 is provided as a downloadable PDF, making it convenient for digital access and printing.
