This adult medium-sized hat features a distinctive construction that begins with an openwork square top that gradually morphs into a circular mini cable ribbed band as you work downward. The versatile design allows for two different finishing styles: blocking flat creates a more structured square tam appearance, while blocking round produces a puffy, dimensional silhouette.

Construction Method and Techniques

This hat is worked top-down, a construction method that allows knitters to try on the hat as they progress and easily adjust the final length. The pattern employs graphed stitch patterns to guide the geometric openwork design at the crown. The transition from the square openwork section to the circular ribbed band demonstrates advanced shaping techniques that require careful attention to stitch placement and decreasing.
