Product Description
All the gloves I’ve come across are either too bulky to be functional, or not nearly warm enough. Enter the Fulled Gloves. Worked in fingering weight wool and then shrunk down to fit, well, like a glove!
Gloves can be intimidating, particularly the fingers. But I assure you, these are very easy and are a great project to practice your in-the-round knitting skills. They are knit loose for felting purposes, so even though the yarn is fingering weight we are using bigger needles, which makes for a quick knit. And because we are shrinking them, any little imperfections are completely unnoticeable in the end.
When choosing a size go by finished palm circumference. These are meant to be worn with zero ease. The fit will be fine tuned to your measurements, as this glove is stretched over your hand while it is still damp so that it can then dry in your perfect shape. The fingers, palms and cuffs are easily adjusted for length.

What is Being Made
The Fulled Gloves are a pair of warm, fitted winter gloves designed for practical everyday wear in cold weather. Unlike traditional mittens or bulky gloves, these gloves offer both warmth and functionality, making them ideal for active use in crisp winter conditions. The design prioritizes comfort and fit, with the finished gloves shrinking to conform snugly to the wearer's hands.
Knitting Technique and Construction
These gloves are worked in-the-round, making them an excellent project for practicing circular knitting skills. The construction method involves knitting the gloves intentionally loose before subjecting them to a fulling process. Fulling is a wet finishing technique that shrinks and densifies the knitted fabric, transforming the loose-fitting piece into a snug, well-fitted garment. This approach offers several advantages: the larger needles used during the knitting phase create a quicker knit, and the fulling process naturally obscures minor knitting imperfections, making this an ideal beginner-friendly project despite the potentially intimidating nature of glove construction.
Stitches and Pattern Details
While specific stitch patterns are not detailed in the pattern overview, the gloves are constructed using fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginners. The in-the-round construction typically involves working the cuff, hand, and individual fingers in continuous rounds. The pattern emphasizes that even though fingering weight yarn is used, the gloves are knit on larger needles than normally recommended for this yarn weight, which accelerates the knitting process while preparing the fabric for the fulling shrinkage.
Materials: Yarn and Needles
The Fulled Gloves are worked in fingering weight wool, a durable fiber choice that responds well to the fulling process. The pattern calls for larger needles than typically paired with fingering weight yarn, accommodating the intentionally loose gauge required before fulling. Wool is essential for this project, as the fulling technique relies on the natural properties of wool fibers to shrink and felt when exposed to moisture and agitation.
Sizing and Fit
When selecting a size for the Fulled Gloves, knitters should choose based on finished palm circumference. This measurement ensures proper fit after the gloves have been fulled and shrunk to their final dimensions. The gloves are designed to be worn snugly against the hand, providing both warmth and dexterity.
Difficulty Level
Rated as a beginner project, the Fulled Gloves provide an accessible entry point into glove knitting. The designer assures knitters that despite the potential intimidation factor of knitting individual fingers, the construction is straightforward. The fulling process adds forgiveness to the finished piece, as imperfections in the knitting become invisible once the fabric has shrunk and densified.
