What Is Being Made
The Frosty Flowers Pullover is a knitted pullover sweater designed by independent designer Meiju Kallio. This garment features a distinctive colorwork yoke inspired by delicate frosty winter flowers, making it an elegant choice for cooler seasons. The pullover is available in an extensive range of sizes from XS through 6XL, ensuring accessibility for various body types and fit preferences.
Construction and Shaping Techniques
This pullover employs a top-down construction method, which allows knitters to easily customize the finished length of the sweater. The neckline is shaped using short row shaping to create a refined neck opening. The sleeves are shaped with decreases to taper from the yoke down to the cuff. While the pattern does not include waist shaping in its standard form, the designer notes that waist shaping can be easily added by knitters who prefer a more fitted silhouette.
Stitches and Colorwork
The defining feature of this design is the colorwork yoke, which incorporates multiple colors to create the frosty flower motif. The colorwork section transitions from the yoke into the body and sleeves, creating visual interest at the top of the garment. The remainder of the sweater is worked in stockinette stitch, a fundamental knitting stitch that provides a smooth, classic fabric.
Materials and Yarn Requirements
The Frosty Flowers Pullover is designed for DK weight yarn, a versatile medium-weight yarn that works well for garments requiring drape and detail definition. Needles required are US 4 (3.5 mm) in circular needle lengths of 12, 20, and 32 inches (60, 80, and 120 cm) to accommodate the various stages of top-down construction. The designer recommends adding a 10% yardage buffer when substituting different yarns, as yardage requirements may vary depending on fiber content and construction.
Skill Level and Pattern Format
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle colorwork and shaping techniques. The Frosty Flowers Pullover is available as a downloadable PDF pattern for personal use, designed and copyrighted by Meiju K-P in 2020.
