Frog Mittens & Hand Puppert

As a zoo volunteer, I wanted to explain to visitors the impact of an invasive species - American Bullfrogs - on native northwestern pond turtles. I thought an easy way to approach the topic might be a bullfrog hand puppet with a turtle pin the size of a hatching in its mouth, then designed a pattern and knit a sample. With a few changes (including the addition of thumbs) the pattern morphed into an adorable pair of mittens.

This final pattern includes basic frog mittens, frog mittens with a open mouths and the original frog hand puppet. Various sizes from 4 years old to XL adult are determined by your choice of yarn. For example, choose a worsted weight yarn for an adult size, or a sport or baby sport weight for a child.

This pattern is written for Magic Loop and assumes a knowledge of this circular knitting technique. The pattern includes complete charts for all pieces, which may help knitters who prefer to adapt it for double pointed needles.
