Product Description
This is a slouchy beret, knitted in the round and worked in one piece from the top down. After casting on your stitches, a small I-cord is knitted before commencing onto the crown shaping of the beret. Beads are optional, but they do add a beautiful touch to this beret.
Instructions for this beret are provided in both written and charted format.
This Forget-Me-Not Beret is based on my Forget-Me-Not Shawl pattern. It uses the same yarn and they share a common pattern repeat.

What is Being Made
The Forget-Me-Not Beret is a knitted hat designed to fit an average-sized head with a finished diameter of approximately 10 inches (25.5 cm) when laid flat. This intermediate-level knitting project draws inspiration from the designer's personal connection to Forget-Me-Not flowers, which became meaningful to her following a charity initiative for Alzheimer's Scotland. The beret shares design elements and pattern repeats with the designer's Forget-Me-Not Shawl, creating a cohesive collection inspired by the delicate blue flowers.
Techniques Used
This beret employs classic knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate crafters. The pattern incorporates beadwork, requiring the knitter to integrate seed beads into the fabric during construction. The design utilizes a repeating stitch pattern that creates the visual motif inspired by Forget-Me-Not flowers. The construction method involves working with double-pointed needles to shape the crown and body of the hat, a standard technique for creating fitted, circular garments in knitting.
Stitches Used
While the specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided materials, the pattern employs a repeating stitch sequence that mirrors the designer's Forget-Me-Not Shawl. The pattern incorporates beading techniques, which typically involve slipping stitches and positioning seed beads within the knit fabric to create decorative elements that enhance the floral theme of the design.
Materials Required
- Yarn: 203 meters (220 yards) of Artesano 4 ply yarn in 100% Superfine Alpaca, shade C864 Forget Me Not
- Needles: 3.25mm double-pointed needles
- Embellishments: 66 size 6 seed beads for beadwork detail
The choice of 4 ply weight yarn and superfine alpaca fiber creates a lightweight, soft, and breathable finished garment suitable for a delicate beret. The yardage requirement of approximately 220 yards is moderate for a hat project, making this an efficient use of materials.
