Knitting Techniques and Construction
Flora employs a hybrid flat and circular knitting construction method. The bonnet begins with flat knitting from the front, then transitions to knitting in the round to shape the back crown. This technique allows for precise shaping of the bonnet's distinctive silhouette. After the main body is complete, stitches are picked up along the bottom edge to create the bonnet's finished hem, and ribbon is woven through this picked-up edge for both functional and decorative purposes.
Stitches Used
The pattern features stockinette stitch as the primary stitch structure, combined with a modern lace motif that provides visual interest and texture throughout the design. The lace elements add delicate detailing while maintaining the bonnet's wearable, vintage-inspired aesthetic.
