Faye is a knitted hat designed to fit an average-size head. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a finished hat using circular knitting techniques worked on double-pointed needles. Craft and Technique

This project is executed entirely in knitting, specifically using the circular knitting method worked in the round. The hat is constructed on a set of four double-pointed needles, which allows the knitter to work continuously in rounds without seaming. This technique is ideal for creating seamless, fitted garments like hats. The pattern includes a crown shaping section that uses strategic decreases to gradually reduce the stitch count and form the fitted top of the hat.

The Faye hat is worked using Wisdom Poems Silk yarn in aran weight. One 50-gram ball of yarn is required to complete the project. The yarn photographed in the pattern is shown in color 737 (pinks). Aran weight yarn is a medium-weight yarn that knits quickly and produces a fabric with good drape and structure, making it suitable for fitted hat designs.

The pattern calls for 4 mm (US size 6) double-pointed needles and a cable needle for manipulating the cable stitches. The recommended tension is 1 pattern repeat (20 stitches) and 2 pattern repeats (24 rows) measured over 7 centimeters using the specified needles and yarn.
