Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Fairlop pattern is designed for 4-ply weight yarn, also known as fingering weight, which is the standard for sock knitting. The recommended yarn is HiKoo by skacel's CoBaSi, a high-quality blend composed of 55% cotton, 21% nylon, 16% bamboo, and 8% silk. This yarn provides 220 yards per 50g skein, making it an excellent choice for summer socks due to its breathable fiber content.

For yardage requirements, a single 50g skein may be sufficient for smaller sizes, though 100g is recommended for most projects. The sample pair shown in the pattern is size Medium with a 9"/22.75cm long foot and used 65g of yarn in colour 47 - Really Red. The pattern notes that any 4-ply or fingering weight sock yarn that meets the specified gauge will be suitable for this project, allowing knitters to choose their preferred yarn while maintaining pattern integrity.
