Evil Minions Knitted Dolls by MrsMeeseMakes
What is Being Made
Evil Minions are small knitted dolls designed by independent designer MrsMeeseMakes. These playful character dolls are constructed using fundamental knitting techniques and finished with carefully chosen embellishments to capture the distinctive minion appearance.
Primary Craft and Techniques
This project uses knitting as the primary construction method. The pattern employs several essential knitting techniques to shape and detail the dolls:
- Stocking Stitch (st-st) forms the main fabric base, created by alternating knit rows with purl rows to produce a smooth, finished appearance
- Increases (Inc) are used to add stitches within the same stitch, allowing the knitter to expand sections of the doll for shaping
- Decreases (Dec) reduce stitch count by knitting or purling two stitches together, enabling tapering and contouring of the doll's form
- Wrap and Turn (W&T) is employed as a shaping method that involves turning the work mid-row to prevent holes while creating contoured sections
- Break and Thread (B&T) finishing technique threads the remaining stitches on the needle to secure and complete the project
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes basic knitting stitches suitable for doll construction:
- Knit Stitch (K)
- Purl Stitch (P)
- Increases and Decreases for three-dimensional shaping
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Evil Minions pattern calls for DK weight yarn in specific colors to achieve the characteristic minion look:
- DK Purple for the main body
- DK Black for contrast details
- Purple Fun Fur yarn for hair texture and visual interest
- Small amount of white, grey, or silver yarn for goggle details
- Matching sewing thread for securing felt components
- Stuffing material to fill and give dimension to the completed dolls
- 3mm needles for working with DK weight yarn
Goggle and Facial Details
The pattern offers flexibility in finishing the minion's distinctive goggles and mouth. The designer notes a preference for using felt for the goggle and mouth sections, as this method minimizes bulk compared to other construction approaches. Alternatively, knitted or embroidered options are available. A single goggle eye can be added if desired, allowing customization of the final doll's expression and character.
Pattern Notes
The pattern includes standard abbreviations and instructions for repeating bracketed sections (rep). The designer's experience indicates that felt application provides the cleanest finish for facial features while maintaining the overall proportions and aesthetic of the Evil Minion doll.
