Esja Sweater was named after a mountain in Iceland and was inspired by famous Icelandic top down garments. Though looking like knitted, the pattern uses usual and simple crochet stitches and is aimed to intermediate crocheters.
Esja Sweater is worked seamlessly from top down. First the yoke is worked in rounds, then some short-rows are worked back and forth to create a higher back and then the crocheted pieces are separated for body and sleeves. The lower body is worked in rounds to hem. Sleeves are worked top down to the cuffs. The length of the body and sleeves is easily adjustable.
The pattern was thoroughly tested in all sizes and professionally tech edited.
The pattern comes in seven sizes with 5cm/2” positive ease: XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL) with a finished bust 90 (95, 100, 105, 110, 116.5, 121.5) cm / 35.4 (37.4, 39.4, 41.3, 43.3, 45.8, 47.8)”.
Original sample was made with Our Tribe yarn (fingering) in two shades and 4mm/G crochet hook.
The Esja Sweater is a crochet sweater designed by Tatsiana Kupryianchyk of LillaBjörnCrochet. This is an original design suitable for intermediate-level crocheters looking to create a finished garment. The pattern is available as a downloadable PDF and allows crafters to make a wearable sweater using two coordinating yarn colors.
This sweater pattern employs fundamental crochet construction methods appropriate for intermediate skill levels. The pattern utilizes color work through the use of two distinct yarn shades, allowing for visual interest and design detail. The sweater is constructed using standard crochet techniques with attention to gauge and tension, which the designer notes may affect yardage requirements depending on individual crochet style.
The pattern uses UK crochet terminology and standard crochet abbreviations including:
These abbreviations indicate that the pattern incorporates back loop stitching techniques, which create distinctive texture and stitch definition in the finished sweater.
The Esja Sweater is designed to be worked with Scheepjes Our Tribe yarn, a premium blend consisting of 70% Merino Superwash and 30% Polyamide. This fiber content provides durability, breathability, and easy care characteristics ideal for a wearable sweater.
