Ellyllon is a pair of charming knitted mitts featuring decorative daisy stitch edges. These mitts are designed as a versatile accessory that can be created in either a two-colour colourway or a single-colour variation. The design showcases the beautiful variegated qualities of Faery Wings yarn, though the pattern works equally well when worked in two complementary semi-solid shades.

Sizing and Fit

The pattern is offered in three sizes: S, M, and L. The mitts are designed with minimal positive ease of 0 – 1.25cm (0 – 0.5in), creating a close, comfortable fit. Actual cuff circumference measures 16 (18, 20)cm (6.25 (7, 8)in), while the palm circumference is 17.5 (20, 22.5)cm (7 (8, 9)in). The total length is 26.5 (27.75, 29)cm (10.5 (11, 11.5)in).

Techniques and Construction

Ellyllon is worked in the round using the DPN (double-pointed needle) method, a traditional technique for creating seamless, tubular garments. Yarn and Needles

The single-colour version uses 1 x 50g skein of Rainbow or any suitable 4-ply/sport weight yarn. Knitting is worked on 3.5mm double-pointed needles (DPNs), 15cm long, or using your preferred method for working in the round.

Gauge and Yarn Weight Considerations

The two-colour version works to a gauge of 26 stitches and 34 rounds to 10cm (4 inches) over stocking stitch using 3.5mm needles before washing. The single-colour version has a slightly different gauge of 24 stitches and 33 rounds to 10cm over stocking stitch with 3.5mm needles after washing. These gauge measurements are taken after blocking, ensuring accurate finished dimensions.

Ellyllon is rated as an intermediate difficulty pattern. While the basic stocking stitch and DPN construction are accessible to knitters with foundational skills, the daisy stitch edging and the coordination required for the two-colour version add moderate complexity.
