What is Being Made

Don't Ask Y Socks is an intermediate-level knitted sock pattern designed by Janelle Martin. These are unisex socks available in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large, with finished foot circumferences ranging from 6 to 9 inches when unstretched, and stretching to accommodate feet up to 8.5 to 11.5 inches. The socks feature a 5.5-inch leg length and are worked from the toe up using a distinctive Japanese stitch pattern.

Techniques and Construction

This pattern employs several key knitting techniques to create a well-fitting sock despite the minimal stretch characteristics of the stitch pattern. Knitters will need 1 to 2 skeins depending on their size.

Needles: US #1.5/2.5 mm circular needles measuring 16 inches (40 cm) are required, or whatever size is necessary to obtain the specified gauge.
