Product Description
This crochet pattern is for a man’s shirt sleeve T-Shirt, with a striking diagonal fading design. As the pattern is asymmetrical AND a random fade, every line is different and the back is reversed so the two halves meet. This is not a “quick” make, but the effort will be well rewarded. The pattern uses the counting method to describe colour changes. All shaping and pattern counts are fully described. It is assumed the maker is already familiar with colour changes in rows and at the end of rows, as these are not described in the pattern. The pattern comes in five sizes, (Small, Medium, Large, XL and XXL) and the pattern for each size has been adjusted specifically for the fit.
Diagonal Fade T-Shirt by SeyhallCrochetDesign
What is Being Made
The Diagonal Fade T-Shirt is a crocheted pullover top designed in a small size with approximate finished measurements of 88 cm (34.5 inches) chest and 68 cm (26.5 inches) length. This garment features a color-blocking design that transitions diagonally across the piece, combining white and black sections to create a striking fade effect.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is an advanced-level crochet project suitable for experienced makers. The pattern employs stitch counts as the primary sizing method, making tension accuracy essential for achieving the correct finished dimensions. Crocheters are instructed to adjust hook size if necessary to match the specified tension of 16 double crochet stitches by 8 rows per 10 cm by 10 cm square.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The Diagonal Fade T-Shirt utilizes several fundamental and intermediate crochet stitches to construct the garment:
- Chain (ch) – Used for foundation chains and turning chains throughout the pattern
- Single Crochet (sc) – A basic stitch employed in various sections of the construction
- Double Crochet (dc) – The primary stitch used in the main fabric, with tension measured in double crochet
- Double Crochet Two Together (dc2tog) – A decrease stitch for shaping, available in both standard and beginning variations (begdc2tog)
- Double Crochet Three Together (dc3tog) – An advanced decrease stitch for more substantial shaping, also offered in a beginning variation (begdc3tog)
- Slip Stitch (sl st) – Used for joining rounds and finishing edges
- Yarn Over (yo) – A foundational technique employed throughout stitch construction
Materials and Equipment
The Diagonal Fade T-Shirt pattern calls for DK weight yarn in two colors: 7 balls of white 50g DK cotton and 5 balls of black 50g DK cotton, totaling 12 balls of yarn. The recommended equipment includes a 4 mm crochet hook, stitch markers for tracking pattern placement, and a large eye needle for weaving in yarn ends and seaming sections together.
Pattern Format and Notes
This is a downloadable PDF pattern from independent designer SeyhallCrochetDesign. The pattern uses standard US crochet terminology and includes abbreviations, special stitch definitions, and guidance notes in brackets to assist makers through the construction process. The notation system specifies that ch 3 and ch 2 turns count as stitches, while ch 1 turns do not count as stitches—an important distinction for maintaining accurate stitch counts and achieving proper sizing.
