Debbie's Toboggan

Pretty much all winter, you’ll find my mom, Debbie, wearing a cozy knit hat to ward off the wind and the chill. Often, they’re ones my sister has crocheted, or I have knit.When I first learned to knit, Mom started knitting lessons with me. She had knit long ago, but it was never her main craft. Over the years, knitting has become something we’ve bonded over. Growing up in Southwest Virginia & Northeast Tennessee, we called these hats “toboggans”. This delightfully cabled hat is slightly slouchy with an optional fold-over brim. It works upward with dancing diamond cables, which transform into a cabled swirl at the crown.
