Product Description
This is my original design based on the PBS Kids show “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” an animated spin-off of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. This pattern is purely fan art (flattery in its highest form), and is in no way associated with the TV series. It helps to have some experience making amigurumi toys to complete him successfully. But as long as you can crochet in the round, you shouldn’t have any trouble—there are no fancy stitches here. You'll only need about 50 yards of red and 50 yards of golden brown to complete him (and even less of white and dark brown), so he is a great stash buster. You'll also need a very small piece of white felt and some black embroidery floss.
Daniel Tiger Stuffed Toy Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
This is an intermediate-level crochet pattern for creating a stuffed toy of Daniel Tiger, the beloved character from the PBS Kids animated series "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood." The pattern is an original fan art design by Amber Romano, created as a tribute to the show and suitable for making plush toys for children, grandchildren, or new babies. The finished toy is constructed from individual crocheted pieces that are assembled together to form the complete character.
Crochet Techniques and Construction Methods
The Daniel Tiger toy is created using fundamental crochet techniques that are accessible to crafters with intermediate experience. The pattern emphasizes crocheting in the round, a core technique for amigurumi construction—the Japanese art of creating small stuffed toys through crocheted or knitted fabric. While the pattern avoids complex or decorative stitches, familiarity with amigurumi methods is beneficial for successful completion. The toy is built by crocheting individual pieces separately, which are then assembled together to create the final three-dimensional stuffed animal.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes basic crochet stitches without fancy or advanced techniques. The foundational stitch work focuses on single crochet and working in continuous rounds, which are essential for creating the tight, structured fabric needed for amigurumi toys that hold their shape and stuffing securely.
Materials Required
This pattern calls for yarn in aran or worsted weight, both medium-weight yarns suitable for creating a toy with good definition and structure. A crochet hook appropriate for the chosen yarn weight is required. Stuffing material is needed to fill the completed pieces before assembly, and basic finishing supplies such as yarn needle for weaving in ends and seaming pieces together are essential.
