Product Description
This listing is for a crochet pattern, not a finished product.
This beginner level pattern is great for anyone looking to go green with their cleaning supplies or save money on those expensive swiffer sweeper pads. Clean your floors with these renewable pads. These highly textured crochet sweeper pads feature the crunch or moss stitch, a beginner's stitch, and they pick up dirt like no other!!
I worked this pattern with Peaches N/ Cream Cotton yarn. It takes almost a full 2.5 oz ball of this yarn to complete 1 swiffer pad.
This easy to follow tutorial to make your own swiffer pads includes lots of pictures for reference, and any updates I make to the pattern. Let me know if you have any issues or questions; I am always available to help!
Crunch Stitch Crochet Swiffer Sweeper Pad
What is Being Made
This project creates a functional crochet pad designed to fit standard Swiffer Sweeper cleaning heads measuring 10 by 4.5 inches. The pad is specifically designed for the Swiffer Sweeper model and is not compatible with the Swiffer Wet Jet. This beginner-friendly crochet pattern allows crafters to make practical, reusable cleaning pads that can be customized with various color options.
Techniques and Stitches Used
The pattern features the Crunch Stitch, a textured stitch pattern that combines alternating slip stitches and half double crochet stitches to create visual interest and tactile texture. This signature stitch is worked in a repeating sequence of slip stitch, half double crochet, slip stitch, half double crochet, and slip stitch to build the distinctive crunch texture throughout the pad.
The two primary crochet stitches used are:
- Slip Stitch (SS) – A joining stitch created by inserting the hook into a stitch, yarning over, and drawing the loop through both the stitch and the loop on the hook in one motion
- Half Double Crochet (HDC) – A medium-height stitch worked by yarning over, inserting the hook into the stitch, yarning over and drawing up a loop (creating three loops on the hook), then yarning over and drawing through all three loops at once
Materials and Tools
This project uses Peaches and Cream Cotton Yarn in worsted weight, which provides durability and washability ideal for a cleaning pad. The designer's samples showcase multiple colorways including Forest Green, Psychedelic, Playtime, and Ocean Coral, allowing crafters to choose colors that match their home décor or personal preference.
Required tools include an H8/5 mm crochet hook, a tapestry or yarn needle for weaving in ends, scissors, and a tape measure for checking finished dimensions and gauge accuracy.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 2 complete Crunch Stitches (the five-stitch sequence) by 5 rows equaling 1 inch by 1 inch. Maintaining this gauge is essential for achieving the correct finished pad dimensions that will properly fit a standard Swiffer Sweeper head.
Skill Level
Rated as a beginner project, this pattern is accessible to crocheters new to the craft. The straightforward stitch combinations and simple construction make it an excellent introduction to functional crochet projects while producing a practical item for everyday use.
