Product Description

Say hello to the Crossrows Beanie, perfect for the chilly and windy weather!

This pattern is FREE ON MY BLOG if you click 'visit pattern website' or you can download an AD FREE PDF version here for a small fee.

The name of the design comes from the stitches I used to create the pattern and I was playing with the words to come up with a fun and easy-to-remember name.

If you like earwarmers, it has a matching earwarmer too, just check my Ravelry store or search for Crossrows Earwarmer.

It’s a fun and easy pattern to use up some aran/worsted yarn from your stash and the sizing options give you a wide range to choose from.

Crossrows Beanie by K.A.M.E. Crochet

What is Being Made

The Crossrows Beanie is a crochet hat pattern designed by Krisztina Anna Matejcsok-Edomer of K.A.M.E. Crochet. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a fitted beanie in six different sizes, ranging from 6-12 months infant sizing through multiple adult options. The design is versatile enough to be made for babies, toddlers, children, and adults, making it an excellent project for building a collection of hats for family members or as handmade gifts.

Craft and Techniques

This project uses the crochet technique, which involves creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn with a single hook. The Crossrows Beanie is classified as an intermediate-level pattern, suitable for crocheters with some experience beyond absolute beginners. The pattern demonstrates fundamental crochet construction methods for hat-making, including working in the round and shaping the crown to create a properly fitted garment. The name "Crossrows" suggests the pattern features a distinctive stitch or textural element created through the arrangement of rows.

Stitches and Construction

While the specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided content, the pattern utilizes standard crochet stitches appropriate for an intermediate skill level. The beanie is constructed using a 5mm (size H) crochet hook, which is a medium-sized hook suitable for working with worsted and aran weight yarns. The pattern instructions guide makers through creating a structured hat that fits properly across the six available sizes, with the construction method remaining consistent across all sizing options.

Materials and Yarn Requirements

The Crossrows Beanie pattern calls for aran weight yarn (also known as worsted weight), which is a medium-weight yarn that works up quickly and creates a warm, durable fabric. The yardage requirements vary based on the size being made:

  • 6-12 months size: 42-45 grams (approximately 85 yards / 77 meters)
  • Toddler size: 45-50 grams
  • Child size: 55-60 grams
  • Adult size: 60-80 grams (approximately 155 yards / 143 meters)

The designer used Paintbox Simply Aran yarn for the sample, though any aran weight yarn of similar fiber content and yardage will work. In addition to yarn, you will need a 5mm (size H) crochet hook, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and scissors. The pattern notes an optional material of faux fur or traditional trim, allowing makers to customize their finished beanie with decorative embellishments if desired.

Pattern Details and Sizing

This pattern is notable for its comprehensive sizing range, offering two different options for adult head sizes within the same downloadable file. This flexibility makes the Crossrows Beanie an accessible project whether you are making a gift for a newborn or creating a hat for yourself. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that while the pattern is not suitable for absolute beginners, it remains achievable for crocheters who have completed several basic projects and are comfortable reading pattern instructions and working in the round.
