Product Description
I have designed this easy Scandinavian inspired crochet cushion cover pattern with basic crochet stitches using US terminology of chains, single crochet and double crochet stitches. It is not complicated but still has an overall affect of looking fabulous. For UK and Australian crocheters there is a stitch conversion for you. I have also included a handy written and visual tutorial for the invisible join.
As this crochet cushion is worked in the round there are no side seams to join which we love. The less seams to join the better I think. The textured design is featured on both the front and the back. The cushion closure is at the top end and closes with 4 buttons.

What is Being Made
This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a crochet cushion cover featuring a Scandinavian-inspired zig zag design with drop stitch detailing. The finished cushion cover is designed as a decorative home accessory that showcases geometric patterning and modern aesthetic appeal. The pattern includes step-by-step instructions and accompanying images to guide crafters through the project completion.
Craft and Technique Overview
This project is executed using the crochet technique, a fiber arts method that uses a single hooked tool to create interlocking loops of yarn. Crochet is known for its versatility in creating both dense and open-work fabrics, making it ideal for home décor items like cushion covers. The drop stitch technique employed in this pattern creates intentional gaps or elongated stitches that contribute to the visual zig zag pattern and add textural interest to the finished piece.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches written in US terminology:
- Chain stitch (ch) – the foundational stitch used to create the base and turning chains
- Slip stitch (slst) – used for joining rounds and connecting stitches without adding height
- Single crochet (sc) – a short, tight stitch that creates dense fabric
- Double crochet (dc) – a taller stitch that works efficiently to cover area
The pattern also incorporates specialized stitch variations including front loop (FL) and back loop (BL) work, which allows crafters to create texture and dimension by working into only one loop of the stitch rather than both loops. The invisible join (NJ) technique is used to create seamless round closures for a professional finish.
Materials and Yarn Weight
This pattern is designed to be worked with aran weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides good stitch definition and creates a fabric with balanced drape and structure. Aran weight yarn works efficiently for cushion covers, allowing the project to progress at a moderate pace while producing a sturdy finished fabric suitable for home décor use. A crochet hook appropriate for aran weight yarn is required to complete this project.
Skill Level
Classified as intermediate difficulty, this pattern is designed for crafters with foundational crochet knowledge who are ready to expand their skills. The easy-to-moderate skill level designation indicates that while the pattern includes straightforward instructions and visual guides, it incorporates techniques such as drop stitches and loop-specific work that require understanding of basic crochet fundamentals and the ability to follow multi-step pattern sequences.
