Product Description
I have designed this easy boho crochet cushion cover with basic crochet stitches using US terminology of chains, single crochets and the puff stitch. It is not complicated but still has an overall affect of looking fabulous. For UK and Australian crocheters there is a stitch conversion for you. I have also included a handy written and visual tutorial on the puff stitch.
All my patterns are written in my own unique style giving you step by step instructions with large images at each stage so you can track your progress visually as well. This pattern is 26 pages in length.
I have finished this cushion cover in a 10 ply eco cotton with a stitch tension of 10cm x 10cm sq. Any 10 ply or chunkier cotton or cotton blend yarn would work well for this project. You could also use an 8 ply yarn but keep in mind the finished size will be smaller than the sizing indicated below so you would need a smaller cushion insert.
Crochet Boho Cushion Cover with Diamond Puff Stitch Design
What is Being Made
This is a crochet cushion cover featuring a boho-inspired aesthetic with a distinctive diamond pattern created using puff stitches. The Crochet Boho Cushion Cover by Rhinestone Mumma is designed as a decorative home accessory that can be completed and resold as a finished handmade item. The pattern allows crafters to create an attractive pillow covering suitable for various interior design styles, particularly those with bohemian or eclectic décor preferences.
Techniques and Construction Methods
This crochet project employs several fundamental crochet techniques to achieve its boho aesthetic. The primary decorative element is the puff stitch, a textured stitch that creates dimensional, raised elements across the fabric. The puff stitch technique involves multiple yarn overs and loops worked into a single stitch location, then drawn together to form a puffy, three-dimensional texture. This stitch is strategically placed to create diamond-shaped motifs throughout the cushion cover design. The pattern uses step-by-step instructions with accompanying images to guide crafters through the construction process, making it accessible to those with easy to moderate skill levels.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes several essential crochet stitches written in US terminology:
- Chain Stitch (CH) – the foundation stitch used to create the base chains and structure of the pattern
- Slip Stitch (SL ST) – used for joining rounds and connecting stitches without adding height
- Single Crochet (SC) – a basic short stitch that creates a tight, dense fabric
- Puff Stitch (PS) – the signature decorative stitch that forms the diamond design elements through multiple yarn overs and loops pulled together
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This project is designed to work with aran weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides good stitch definition and creates a fabric with appropriate drape and structure for a cushion cover. The pattern requires a crochet hook appropriate for aran weight yarn (typically a size H/8 or I/9 hook, though specific hook size should be verified in the complete pattern instructions). The aran weight yarn selection ensures that the puff stitch diamonds display clearly and the finished cushion cover has adequate body and durability for regular use.
Skill Level and Pattern Details
Rated as an intermediate difficulty level, this pattern is suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work with more textured techniques. The puff stitch, while requiring attention to technique, is clearly explained in the pattern abbreviations and instructions. The inclusion of step-by-step images supports crafters in understanding each stage of construction, making the pattern very easy to follow despite the intermediate skill classification. This accessibility encourages crafters of varying experience levels to attempt the project successfully.
