Product Description
If you like this, but prefer gloves, check out my "Crème de Noyaux" gloves! Both patterns are available together in the "Crème de Noyaux Gloves and Mitts" eBook.
The almond shaped rib pattern of these mitts shows up nice and clear due to the enhanced stitch definition of the twisted stitches. With the elasticity of the ribbing, the mitts will have an excellent and comfortable fit.
In fingering weight yarn, the sizes are Women’s XS-S, M-L, and XL, for hands with a circumference above thumb of 16.5-18.5, 18.5-20.5, and 20.5-22.5 cm / 6 1/2-7 1/4, 7 1/4-8, and 8-8 7/8”. In light fingering or a loosely spun fingering weight yarn, the sizes are Women’s XXS-XS, S-M, and L-XL, for hands with a circumference above thumb of 15.5-17.5, 17.5-19.5, and 19.5-21.5 cm / 6 1/8-6 7/8, 6 7/8-7 5/8, and 7 5/8-8 1/2”.

Crème de Noyaux Mitts by Dagmar Mora
What is Being Made
The Crème de Noyaux Mitts are a pair of fitted hand mitts featuring an elegant almond-shaped rib pattern. These mitts are designed to sit above the thumb with a comfortable, elastic fit suitable for various hand sizes. The pattern is available in multiple size options ranging from Women's XXS through XL, making them adaptable for different hand circumferences.
Design and Stitch Definition
The defining characteristic of these mitts is the almond-shaped rib pattern created through the use of twisted stitches. The twisted stitch construction provides enhanced stitch definition, allowing the geometric pattern to display clearly and prominently. This stitch choice not only creates visual interest but also contributes to the structural integrity of the finished mitts.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
These mitts are constructed using knitting techniques worked in the round, which is typical for seamless glove and mitt construction. The primary stitch pattern employed is k1tbl, p1 ribbing (knit one through the back loop, purl one), which creates the textured almond-shaped design. This ribbing is combined with stocking stitch sections for the body of the mitts.
The ribbing pattern provides significant elasticity, ensuring the mitts conform comfortably to the wearer's hand while maintaining their shape. The pattern notes that ribbing requires adequate length to properly settle and display its full textural qualities.
Yarn and Materials
The Crème de Noyaux Mitts are designed to be worked in fingering weight yarn or light fingering weight yarn. The pattern provides distinct sizing and tension specifications for each yarn weight option, allowing crafters to choose based on their available materials and desired finished dimensions.
For fingering weight yarn, the pattern specifies a tension of 32 stitches by 44 rounds over 10 by 10 centimeters (4 by 4 inches) in stocking stitch, and 48 stitches by 40 rounds over the same measurement in the k1tbl, p1 ribbing. For those using light fingering weight yarn or loosely spun fingering weight options, alternative sizing is provided to accommodate the different yarn characteristics.
Size Range and Fit
The mitts are offered in the following sizes for fingering weight yarn: Women's XS-S, M-L, and XL, with corresponding mitt circumferences above the thumb of 15.5, 18, and 20.5 centimeters respectively (or 6⅛, 7⅛, and 8 inches). For light fingering weight yarn, sizes range from Women's XXS-XS through L-XL with proportionally smaller circumferences.
The pattern is designed for hands with specific circumference measurements above the thumb, ensuring proper fit and comfort. The elasticity of the ribbed construction allows for some flexibility in fit across the specified hand circumference ranges.
Skill Level
The Crème de Noyaux Mitts are classified as an intermediate difficulty project. This rating reflects the need to work twisted stitches with precision and maintain consistent tension in ribbed sections, as well as the ability to work in the round and manage multiple size options.
