Product Description
I wanted to work on something that was quick to work up and something I could make to gift to others, but also something that gave me a purpose to sit down for a moment and “unravel”, myself. I decided to make a bunch of coasters in a bunch of different colors from my new The Hook Nook Collection yarn.
You could easily make these in sets of four and offer them as gifts to friends and family. I also love to make these as little moments to curate moments in my day for creativity and end with an intentional item that I can use within my home as we prepare to set foot into this new decade. Intention is something I want to put focus on again and these little coasters are a wonderful way to implement that.
So, let's get started, shall we?!

Cozy Coasters Crochet Pattern by Jessica Carey
What Is Being Made
The Cozy Coasters are a set of small, functional table accessories designed to protect surfaces from moisture and heat. Each coaster measures 5" x 5", making them perfectly sized for standard drinking glasses and mugs. These coasters are ideal for home décor, gifting, or creating a coordinated table setting. The pattern is designed by Jessica Carey of The Hook Nook and is suitable for crafters of all skill levels.
Crochet Techniques Used
This project employs the Moss Stitch as its primary construction technique. The Moss Stitch creates a textured, woven appearance by alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches in a repeating pattern. After completing the main square body, a clean border is worked around the outside edges to finish the coaster professionally and prevent curling.
Stitches Used
- Chain (CH): Used to create the foundation chain of 16 stitches for the starting row
- Single Crochet (SC): Alternated with double crochet to form the Moss Stitch pattern throughout the square
- Double Crochet (DC): Alternated with single crochet to create texture and visual interest in the Moss Stitch
- Half Double Crochet (HDC): Referenced in the gauge measurement for consistency
Materials and Specifications
Yarn: DK weight yarn (weight 3) in 100% acrylic, available in The Hook Nook colorways including Minimalist, Foggy Morning, Green Thumb, and Tattoo Ink. Each single coaster requires approximately 25 yards of yarn, making it possible to create up to ten coasters from one skein.
Hook: K/6.5mm crochet hook. The Hook Nook Designer Crochet Hook is recommended for this project.
Additional Tools: The Hook Nook Ends Weaver is suggested for weaving in yarn ends neatly.
Skill Level and Gauge
This pattern is rated as easy and beginner-friendly, making it an excellent introduction to crochet for new crafters. The gauge is 13 stitches x 11 rows = 4" x 4" when working in half double crochet, ensuring consistent sizing across finished coasters.
