Product Description

A versatile layering piece that's as fun to wear as it is to knit, Concord Vest features an extra-deep v-neck and an interesting rib pattern on the sides that gives a figure-flattering fit without the need for additional waist shaping.

The vest is constructed flat in two pieces. Armhole shaping is worked with double & single decreases rather than BOs (so as to not interrupt the rib pattern on the sides). Then a three-needle bind-off is worked to join the shoulder straps and the sides are sewn together.

Best of all, armhole and neck edgings are worked along with the fabric—absolutely no picking up stitches required!

What is Being Made

The Concord Vest is a versatile layering piece designed as a waistcoat-style top featuring an extra-deep v-neck. This knitted vest is suitable for a range of sizes from XXS through 3X, with finished bust measurements ranging from 27 inches (68.5 cm) to 53 inches (134.5 cm). The design is shown in size M with approximately 2 inches of negative ease, making it an adaptable garment for various body types and styling preferences.

Techniques and Construction

This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques to create its distinctive silhouette. The vest features an interesting rib pattern positioned on the sides, which adds visual interest and structural definition to the garment. The construction utilizes a three-needle bind-off technique, which creates a professional, seamless finish. The pattern is worked primarily in stockinette stitch on the larger needles, providing a smooth, classic fabric base that showcases the yarn's qualities.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch pattern is stockinette stitch, which forms the main body of the vest and creates a clean, smooth fabric surface. The design incorporates rib patterning on the side sections, which provides both visual contrast and subtle shaping to the garment. These complementary stitch patterns work together to create the vest's characteristic aesthetic while maintaining structural integrity.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Concord Vest is designed to be knitted with Cephalopod Yarns Traveller, a 100% merino yarn available in the color Finger Lakes. Yardage requirements range from 560 yards (2 skeins) for the smallest sizes to 1,120 yards (4 skeins) for the largest sizes, with each skein containing 280 yards and weighing 114 grams.

Needles and Notions

  • US #4 [3.5 mm] straight or circular needles
  • US #5 [3.75 mm] straight or circular needles for main fabric
  • US #5 [3.75 mm] set of at least three double-pointed needles for the three-needle bind-off
