Circles around you is a lighthearted, fun and whimsy kind of make. It is a stranded colorwork cowl but it is different than most cowls worked with stranded colorwork as it is worked flat in two panels then seamed together. This was organic as I started working I wondered how the pattern would look if I inverted the colors so t his lead to idea of having the colors inverted on the other side and naturally working a separate panel which would have to be seamed I LOVE IT!! I think you will too!

Circles Around You Cowl by Skeinsnsticks Designs
Project Overview
The Circles Around You Cowl is a lighthearted, fun, and whimsical knitted cowl featuring stranded colorwork. This design takes an innovative approach to traditional colorwork cowls by working the piece flat in two separate panels that are then seamed together, rather than working in the round. This construction method allows for an intentional design feature: the colors are inverted on each panel, creating a reversible effect with two distinct colorwork presentations depending on which side of the cowl is worn facing outward.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This project employs stranded colorwork as its primary technique, a method in which two colors of yarn are carried across the back of the work to create patterned designs on the fabric surface. The cowl is worked flat rather than in the round, which is an unconventional approach for cowl construction. This flat-panel method requires seaming to join the two completed panels together into the final cowl shape. The pattern is worked to a gauge of 20 stitches and 22 rows over 4 inches (10 centimeters) in the stitch pattern after blocking, ensuring proper fit and drape.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Circles Around You Cowl is designed to be worked with Knit Picks Muse yarn in aran weight. This yarn is composed of 100% Superwash Merino Wool, making it durable, soft, and easy to care for. The pattern calls for two colors: C1: Honor Tonal and C2: Gregarious Speckle, with one hank of each color required—totaling 2 hanks. Each hank contains 114 yards and weighs 100 grams, providing sufficient yardage for the completed cowl.
Tools and Finished Dimensions
Knitters will need US 10 (6.0mm) needles, which can be either straight or circular needles depending on personal preference. The finished cowl, after blocking, measures 13 inches in width and 10 inches in length, with the design comprising a 1-inch border at both the top and bottom and an 8-inch colorwork main pattern section in the center.
