Circle & Square

Squaring the circle with this extra-warm and extra pretty hat: Circle & Square! You start with an oval, working in the round and end with a square, all completely seamless and without any purl stitches. The unusual con- struction looks especially attractive in a self-striping or gradient yarn. The fabric is doubled in the spots that count (ears!), so it’s perfect for icy-cold winter days. Work it in a fingering-weight yarn or choose the yarn you like – the size is adaptable to the wearer’s head circumference. I have chosen the super soft “Lazy Lion” sock yarn by Kremke Soul Wool, but the pattern is adaptable to other yarn weights and gauges.

This pattern uses magic loop and a two-sided cast-on for the first few rounds, both of which are explained in a video linked in the pattern. There’s also a video about the joining process.
