Product Description
This is a slouchy beret, knitted in the round and worked in one piece from the bottom up. After casting on using a long tail tubular cast on method for 1x1 rib, the brim is worked before commencing onto a beaded section to knit the Christmas tree motifs. This is then followed by the crown shaping of the beret and an I-cord finish.
Instructions for this beret are provided in both written and charted format.
Christmas Tree Beret by Amanda (Shuttermonkey)
What Is Being Made
The Christmas Tree Beret is a festive, slouchy knitted hat designed to fit an average-sized head with a finished diameter of approximately 10 inches (25.5 cm) when laid flat. This seasonal beret features a decorative beaded Christmas tree motif worked into the fabric, combining traditional beret shaping with holiday embellishment. The design uses a rich red yarn as the base color, which creates striking contrast with the beaded tree details in green, yellow, and black seed beads.
Techniques Used
This beret is constructed using circular knitting techniques, worked entirely in the round as a single continuous piece. The slouchy silhouette is achieved through strategic shaping and the use of multiple needle sizes to create the characteristic relaxed fit of a beret. Beadwork is integrated directly into the knitting process, with seed beads incorporated into the fabric to create the festive Christmas tree design. The construction method allows for seamless knitting, eliminating the need for seaming while maintaining structural integrity and a professional finish.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch structure is stocking stitch (also known as stockinette stitch), which creates the smooth, classic fabric base for the beret. Stocking stitch is worked by alternating knit and purl rows when knitting flat, or by knitting every round when working in the round, as is the case with this design. The beaded motif is created by incorporating seed beads into the stitch work, likely using a beading technique where beads are threaded onto yarn or slipped through stitches to create the decorative tree pattern.
