Product Description
Look out for my 3 pack of Christmas decorations where you get 2 patterns for the price of 2!!!
These Christmas baubles are made with yarn and toy filling. No need to buy baubles to cover so makes them inexpensive.
They look great hanging on a tree, placed in a bowl as a table centrepiece or just placed in the middle of the table. My favourite is to write each persons name on them with fabric paint and use them as place cards.
Let your imagination run wild with decorating ideas. Knit them in stripes, sew beads or sequins on them, or just fabric paint squiggles. Have fun.
They measure about 6cm (2 1/2") across.
They are knitted on 2 needles with 8 ply (DK) yarn so even a beginner can make them. I chose the 8 ply yarn as that seems to be the most popular and they knit up very quickly.
Christmas Ornaments or Baubles by Amalia Samios
What is Being Made
These Christmas Ornaments or Baubles are small decorative knitted pieces designed for holiday decoration. Each bauble measures approximately 15 cm (6 inches) tall and can be customized in various colors. These are three-dimensional toys that function as festive ornaments suitable for displaying on trees or as standalone decorative pieces.
Craft and Construction Technique
This is a knitting project suitable for crafters with intermediate skill level. The baubles are constructed using fundamental knitting techniques combined with finishing embellishments. The construction begins with a small cast-on and uses strategic increases to create the rounded bauble shape, followed by decreases to close the form. After knitting is complete, the pieces are stuffed with toy filling to create a three-dimensional ornament.
Stitches and Techniques Used
- Inc (Increase): Knit into the front and back of the same stitch to create 2 stitches from 1 stitch. This technique is used repeatedly throughout the pattern to expand the bauble from the initial 6 cast-on stitches to the maximum width of 36 stitches.
- K (Knit): Standard knit stitch used in combination with increases and other stitches
- Purl: Purl rows are worked between increase rows to create texture and structure
- K2tog (Knit 2 Together): A decrease stitch used in the latter portion of the pattern to shape the bauble and reduce stitches back down
- Stockinette Stitch (st st): Worked for 7 rows to create smooth fabric texture

Essential Materials:
- 3.00mm (US size 2.5) knitting needles, or size appropriate to achieve desired tension

Yarn Weight and Gauge
This pattern uses DK weight (8 ply/worsted) yarn
The Plain Bauble pattern begins with casting on 6 stitches and uses a series of increase rows combined with purl rows to build the bauble shape symmetrically. The pattern progresses through multiple increase rounds, each increasing by 5 stitches, until reaching the maximum of 36 stitches. Stockinette stitch is then worked for stability, followed by decrease rounds using K2tog to close the bauble. The finished knitted piece is then stuffed with toy filling and sewn closed using a wool needle. Optional decorative elements such as fabric paint, sequins, and beads can be added for personalized festive designs.Pattern Notes
