Charlie Girl Cardigan by Lisa van Klaveren
What is Being Made
The Charlie Girl Cardigan is a wearable crochet cardigan designed by Lisa van Klaveren for intermediate-level crocheters. This garment features a comfortable, versatile construction that works beautifully in DK or light worsted weight yarn. The cardigan is engineered for excellent stretch and drape, making it a pleasure to both stitch and wear.
Construction Technique
The Charlie Girl Cardigan employs a straightforward construction method that minimizes seaming. The back piece is created first by working a rectangle according to the dimensions provided in the included size chart. Once the back is complete, an armhole row is worked to create the openings where the sleeves will attach. The front and collar of the cardigan are then worked in easy rows along three sides of the completed back piece, building the garment in a logical, manageable sequence. The only seams required are on the sleeves, keeping finishing work minimal and accessible for intermediate crafters.
Stitches and Special Techniques
This pattern features a special stitch called the Half Double Slip Stitch (hdsl), which is worked as follows: yarn over, insert hook in stitch. The pattern incorporates knit-look ribbed edgings on both the body and sleeves, creating a polished, professional finish that enhances the cardigan's wearability and structure. These ribbed edgings contribute to the garment's excellent stretch and help define the neckline and cuff areas.
