Product Description
We all have that beautiful, comfortable, and flattering piece we wear for every occasion, year after year-- it’s the ubiquitous sweater dress. We wear it with boots, heels, flats…leggings, tights, bare legged. We love it. I wanted to create this same lovable staple piece for my daughters’ comfort as well; so I designed the Cecilia Sweater Dress!
The dress is very comfortable; starting from the top: the collar is easily pulled over the head and lies beautifully when worn. while the dress is designed to have little to no ease at the bust for a fitted look, the armhole depth is generous to allow easy dressing. It also features subtle increases at the waist and hips for a comfortable fit while maintaining a sleek, classic silhouette. Because of its forgiving fit, three ranged sizes are included in the pattern instructions. The sleeves and length are easily modified, allowing you to shorten or lengthen the dress as you desire.
Cecilia Sweater Dress Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
The Cecilia Sweater Dress is a chic, modern crochet sweater dress designed for children. This downloadable crochet pattern by Brynnan Foster, created by Esme & Aven, features a ribbed turtleneck collar and is available in three child sizes: Child Small (2T–3T), Child Medium (4T–5), and Child Large (6–7). The sweater dress combines classic construction with contemporary styling, making it a versatile piece for a child's wardrobe.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern is classified as beginner level, making it an excellent choice for those new to crochet or looking for a straightforward garment project. The dress features a distinctive ribbed turtleneck collar, which adds textural interest and a polished finish to the neckline. The ribbed construction technique provides both visual appeal and functional stretch around the neck area.
Stitches and Construction
While the PDF content does not specify individual stitch abbreviations used throughout the pattern, the ribbed turtleneck collar indicates the use of techniques that create vertical texture and elasticity. The overall construction follows standard crochet garment methodology, suitable for a beginner-level project.
Materials Required
This pattern calls for light weight (3) yarn, also known as DK weight yarn. The yardage requirements vary by size:
- Child Small: Approximately 660 yards (3 skeins of Coboo Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns)
- Child Medium: Approximately 910 yards (4 skeins of Coboo Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns)
- Child Large: Approximately 970 yards (5 skeins of Coboo Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns)
The pattern specifies a US G6/4.00 mm crochet hook as the primary tool. Additional materials include a yarn needle for weaving in ends and scissors for cutting yarn. The pictured example uses Coboo Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns, a light weight option that demonstrates the intended look and drape of the finished garment.
