Product Description
I designed and made it for myself to wear—something cozy and warm in winter, but it has to be elegant.
This A-line dress is worked from the top-down, using amazing Contiguous sleeve method developed by [Susie Myers][3]. This project will keep you busy till half way through with lots of fun techniques such as Contiguous method, SSE, Eyelet Rib stitch and gather stitch. The last half is mindless st st! The Eyelet Rib Lace stitch used at the front panel, bottom border and cuffs look like caviar to me!
When the upper body from shoulder to above chest is a close fit, the rest of the garment is an easy fit with puffed long sleeves.

Caviar Dress by Yoko Johnston
What is Being Made
The Caviar Dress is a knitted garment designed by Yoko Johnston, available in multiple sizes ranging from XS to XL. This dress is created using knitting techniques and is suitable for beginners looking to develop their skills with a wearable project.
Sizes and Finished Measurements
The pattern includes the following size options with corresponding finished measurements:
- XS/7 (71-76 cm / 28-30")
- S/8 (81-86 cm / 32-34")
- M/9 (91-96 cm / 36-38")
- L/10 (101-106 cm / 40-42")
- XL/11 (112-117 cm / 44-46")
Needles and Tools Required
This knitting project requires specific needle sizes to achieve proper gauge. The pattern calls for 4.5mm (US 7) circular needles measuring 60cm (24") or longer for the main fabric construction. Additionally, 4.0mm (US 6) double-pointed needles (dpn) are needed for cast-on and finishing work. A 3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook is also included in the pattern requirements, suggesting finishing details that incorporate crochet techniques.
Yarn Weight and Materials
The Caviar Dress is designed using DK weight yarn, which is a lightweight to medium-weight yarn ideal for creating garments with good drape and stitch definition. DK yarn allows for detailed stitch work while remaining accessible for beginner knitters. The pattern provides yardage requirements that vary by size to accommodate the different finished measurements.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginner-level crafters. The construction involves working with circular needles, which is a standard method for creating seamless garments. The inclusion of double-pointed needles indicates sections requiring smaller circumference knitting, commonly used for armholes, necklines, or fitted areas. The integration of a crochet hook suggests finishing techniques such as edging or closure work that combine both knitting and crochet methods.
Gauge and Customization
Achieving proper gauge is essential for this project. The pattern instructions recommend changing needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge, ensuring that the finished dress meets the specified measurements. This flexibility allows knitters to adjust their needle size based on their individual tension and yarn characteristics.
