Yarn and Materials

Caroline is designed to be worked in DK weight yarn, with the pattern requiring 4 to 6 balls of yarn depending on size (Small requires 4 balls; Medium through Extra Large require 5 to 6 balls). The pattern specifies Lincraft Romance, a 50-gram ball yarn with a yardage of 185 meters per ball. Knitters should note that yarn quantities may vary based on individual knitting tension and yarn characteristics.

The project requires 4.00mm (UK 8, US 6) knitting needles for flat work, along with a 4.00mm circular knitting needle measuring 80cm (31½ inches) for working the neckline and other circular sections. Additional materials include a wool needle for seaming, a stitch holder for managing live stitches, and optionally a hook and eye for closure.

Gauge and Sizing

Achieving proper tension is essential for this project. The pattern specifies a gauge of 21 stitches and 28 rows to 10cm (4 inches) over stocking stitch using 4.00mm needles. Finished garment measurements range from 85cm (33½ inches) for size Small to 115cm (45¼ inches) for size Extra Large, with approximate lengths varying from 52cm to 55cm (20½ to 21¾ inches) depending on size.

Rated as intermediate difficulty, Caroline is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are comfortable working with set-in sleeves, shaping techniques, and lace stitch patterns. The combination of straightforward stocking stitch sections with more intricate lace work provides an engaging project that builds technical proficiency.
