Candy Shawl by Kimberly Gintar
Project Overview
Candy is an intermediate-level knitted shawl designed by independent designer Kimberly Gintar. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished shawl measuring approximately 19 inches (50 cm) wide by 73 inches (185 cm) long after washing and blocking. The design features a cable pattern inspired by the appearance of candy, specifically crafted to showcase the beautiful color variations in variegated yarn.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a long, rectangular shawl suitable for draping and layering. The shawl is the second in Gintar's candy-themed pattern collection and is designed to highlight the visual qualities of variegated DK weight yarn through its strategic cable construction.
Techniques and Stitches Used
The Candy shawl employs cable knitting as its primary stitch technique. The cable pattern creates dimensional texture and interacts dynamically with variegated yarn colors, producing visual interest as the colors shift throughout the design. The pattern is worked primarily in stockinette stitch as the background fabric, with cables worked across the piece to create the candy-inspired motif.
Materials Required
- Yarn: Araucania Puelo Baby Llama in DK weight; 3 skeins totaling 300 grams and 690 yards (630.9 meters)
- Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm)

Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 20 stitches per 4 inches (10 cm) after blocking in stockinette stitch. While gauge is noted as not critically important for this design, variations in personal gauge may affect the final dimensions and yardage requirements.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as beginner/intermediate difficulty, making it accessible to knitters with some foundational experience who are ready to work with cables and shaping techniques.
