Product Description
Soft as Candy Floss puff dress for your Blythe dolls in 3 sizes. Petite, Middie and 12" Blythe all included. Simple to knit but an effective design that you can decorate in lots of ways! I used Debbie Bliss Angel and Wendy air yarns for these and both worked beautifully!
Includes instructions to make the crochet flower headband too.
I have not been able to do a gauge for this but as a rule I knit loosley so if you are a tight knitter you could try going up a needle size to get the right tension.
Candy Floss Dress and Flower Headband for Blythe Dolls
Project Overview
This downloadable knitting pattern by Polly creates a delicate candy floss dress paired with a coordinating flower headband, designed to fit three different Blythe doll sizes: Neo, Middie, and petite 12" Blythe dolls. The pattern uses lightweight, airy yarn to achieve a soft, cloud-like aesthetic that evokes the texture and appearance of spun sugar candy floss.
What Is Being Made
The pattern includes two coordinating pieces for Blythe dolls:
- A fitted candy floss dress with shaping at the bodice and a voluminous skirt
- A flower headband accessory to complement the dress
Knitting Techniques Used
This pattern employs several fundamental and intermediate knitting techniques to create the dress structure and decorative elements:
- Stocking stitch as the primary fabric base, creating a smooth, classic knitted surface
- Increases using Kfb (knit into front and back) to add stitches strategically, building the dress shape from a fitted bodice to a fuller skirt
- Decreases using K2tog (knit two together) to shape the garment
- Cast-on and cast-off techniques to create armholes and define garment sections
- Needle size transitions from 2mm to 2.5mm needles to adjust fabric density and create textural variation
- Crochet finishing using a 2mm crochet hook for edging and embellishment details
Stitches Used
- Knit (K) stitch
- Purl (P) stitch
- Kfb (knit into front and back) increase stitch
- K2tog (knit two together) decrease stitch
- Stocking stitch (SS) – alternating knit and purl rows to create the main fabric
Materials and Yarn
The pattern calls for laceweight mohair yarn to achieve the characteristic candy floss appearance. Recommended yarn options include Rowan Kidsilk Haze or Debbie Bliss Angel, both of which provide the lightweight, fluffy texture essential to this design.
Tools and Notions
- 2mm knitting needles for the initial bodice shaping
- 2.5mm knitting needles for the skirt section to create a more open, airy fabric
- 2mm crochet hook for finishing and embellishment work
- Button for closure or decoration
- Beads for additional embellishment on the dress and headband
Pattern Structure for 12" Blythe Size
The dress construction begins with casting on 30 stitches on 2mm needles. The pattern uses strategic increases to expand from 30 stitches to 40 stitches, then to 60 stitches, creating the fitted bodice. Armholes are formed through cast-off sections, with stitches then cast back on to create sleeves or armhole openings. A dramatic increase row expands the stitch count to 108 stitches using Kfb across nearly all stitches, creating the voluminous skirt. The needle size increase to 2.5mm at this stage produces a more open, delicate fabric appropriate for the candy floss aesthetic. The pattern then repeats a four-row sequence of knit and purl rows to build the skirt depth.
Design Features
The dress features a carefully engineered silhouette with a shaped bodice that fits snugly to the doll's torso, transitioning into a dramatically fuller skirt. The use of laceweight mohair and the strategic increase sequences create a garment with significant volume and a cloud-like appearance. The flower headband provides a coordinating accessory that completes the whimsical candy floss theme. Beads and button embellishments add decorative detail and visual interest to both pieces.
