Product Description
This pattern is dedicated to „Calianna“ a character from „Critical Role“. This young and excitable sorceress is of elf decent but got got a bit of draconic blood on one side, the right side to be precise. Her signature look are her green hair with ribbons, which she uses to mask the dragon scales and yellow eye on her right side of her face. To mask the draconic hand she is mostly seen wearing flowy and wide robes. The sock pattern is remarkable in this aspect, that it combines the unexpected and strange with the elegant and known. An easy 2x2 rib pattern are broken up by shards of lace. The lace pattern is a reminisce of Caliannas draconic heritage and the rib pattern is trying to cover it up, but still flashes of the scales show through.
Calianna Knitted Socks by Atalante
Project Overview
Calianna is an intermediate-level knitted sock pattern inspired by the character Calianna from Critical Role. This downloadable PDF pattern creates fitted socks in three women's sizes, designed for knitters with foundational sock-knitting experience. The pattern celebrates the character's signature aesthetic—a young elf sorceress with draconic heritage—making it an ideal project for fans of the series and those seeking a themed knitting pattern with character-driven design inspiration.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a pair of women's socks available in three finished circumference sizes:
- Size S: 20.5 cm / 8 inches circumference
- Size M: 23 cm / 9 inches circumference
- Size L: 25.5 cm / 10 inches circumference
The socks are designed to fit a range of foot sizes, allowing knitters to select the appropriate size for their intended wearer.
Knitting Techniques Used
Calianna employs circular knitting in the round, a fundamental technique for sock construction that creates seamless, tubular fabric. This method is worked on double-pointed needles or circular needles, producing socks without the need for seaming. The pattern utilizes stockinette stitch as the primary fabric structure, creating smooth, uniform fabric ideal for fitted garments like socks.
Stitches and Stitch Details
The pattern is constructed primarily in stockinette stitch, which produces the classic smooth V-pattern texture characteristic of most sock designs. The gauge for this pattern is 9 stitches over 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) in stockinette stitch, establishing the tension required for proper fit and fabric drape. Knitters will use stitch markers to track pattern repeats and construction sections during the knitting process.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The pattern calls for 2.5mm (US 1 1/2) needles suitable for working in the round, specifically designed for fine gauge sock knitting. The recommended yarn is Regia 4-ply, a professional-grade sock yarn composed of 75% wool and 25% polyamide. One skein of Regia provides 420 meters per 100-gram ball, offering ample yardage for a complete pair of socks. The pattern specifies colorway 7186 Lime, a green shade that references the character's signature green hair. Additional materials include a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends and two stitch markers for tracking pattern sections.
Yarn Weight and Fiber Content
This pattern uses 4-ply yarn, a lightweight yarn weight that creates fine, delicate fabric suitable for close-fitting garments. The blend of 75% wool and 25% polyamide provides both the warmth and elasticity of natural wool while the polyamide content adds durability and shape retention—essential qualities for socks subjected to regular wear and washing.
Skill Level
Calianna is classified as an intermediate difficulty pattern, making it appropriate for knitters who have completed basic sock projects and are comfortable with circular knitting techniques, gauge management, and working with fine yarn and small needles. Knitters new to sock construction should build foundational skills before attempting this pattern.
