This is a super chunky knitted blanket designed for both functional warmth and decorative impact. The Cable Knit Blanket is available in three sizes to suit different bed dimensions and living spaces: Small (120 x 150 cm / 47 x 59 inches), Queen (160 x 190 cm / 63 x 75 inches), and King (170 x 200 cm / 67 x 79 inches). The blanket features oversized cable patterns that create visual interest and functional pockets of insulating warmth, making it ideal for bed dressing, sofa throws, or cozy TV time.

Techniques and Stitches Used

This knitting project centers on cable knit techniques, which involve crossing groups of stitches over one another to create the distinctive twisted, rope-like texture. The cable pattern is the primary design element, with the number of cables varying by blanket size: Small blankets feature 3 cables, Queen size blankets feature 4 cables, and King size blankets feature 5 cables. These oversized cables are characteristic of extreme knitting, a technique that emphasizes bold, dramatic stitchwork using very thick yarns and large needles to create projects quickly and with striking visual impact.

Materials Required

The Cable Knit Blanket is worked in super chunky yarn using a double strand technique, meaning you will work with 2 balls of yarn simultaneously throughout the project. The yarn weight should be suitable for 10-12mm needles (US size 15) as indicated on the yarn ball band. Yarn fiber content can be either acrylic or wool blend, offering flexibility in material choice based on preference and budget.
