Product Description

This is a corner to corner crochet version of my Santa Teddy chart, this version includes a c2c picture chart and a colour-coded written version for those who prefer to follow worded instructions. I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.

The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)

C2C Santa Teddy Corner to Corner Blanket

Project Overview

The Santa Teddy is a charming corner to corner crochet blanket design featuring a festive teddy bear wearing Santa attire. This intermediate-level project uses the corner to corner (C2C) crochet technique to create a graphical representation of a cheerful holiday character. The design is presented as a picture chart that guides crafters through the color placement and stitch progression required to build the blanket from one corner to the opposite corner.

What Is Being Made

This pattern creates a crochet blanket with a pixelated image of a teddy bear dressed as Santa Claus. The finished piece serves as a decorative throw blanket suitable for holiday displays, gifts, or seasonal home décor. The chart-based design allows the crafter to work systematically across the blanket, building the image block by block as the project progresses.

Crochet Technique: Corner to Corner (C2C)

The corner to corner technique is a popular crochet method where the blanket is constructed diagonally, beginning at one corner and working toward the opposite corner. This technique creates a structured, grid-like fabric that works exceptionally well with picture charts. The C2C method involves working in small blocks of stitches, with each block typically consisting of a few rows of double crochet or similar stitches. As you progress diagonally across the blanket, you increase and decrease stitches strategically to form the expanding and contracting shape needed to reach the opposite corner. This approach makes it easy to follow a color chart, as each block can be worked in the specified color before moving to the next section.

Stitches and Stitch Work

While the specific stitch instructions are not detailed in the provided chart, corner to corner crochet typically employs double crochet stitches as the foundation stitch for building blocks. The technique may also incorporate chain stitches for structure and transitions between colored blocks. The gridded nature of the C2C method creates a fabric with clear, defined squares that correspond directly to the squares shown on the picture chart, making color changes and pattern following straightforward.

Color Palette and Materials

The Santa Teddy design uses five distinct colors to bring the festive character to life:

  • Denim (color code 1004) – for background or clothing details
  • Black (color code 245) – for features and definition
  • White (color code 115) – for highlights and Santa details
  • Red (color code 201) – for Santa's iconic suit and hat
  • Brown (color code 151) – for the teddy bear's body

This pattern is designed to be worked with DK weight yarn, which provides a balanced fabric weight suitable for a cozy blanket. DK yarn works well with the corner to corner technique, creating a fabric with good drape and structure. The yarn weight ensures that the finished blanket has appropriate density while remaining manageable to work with. Crocheters will need an appropriately sized crochet hook suitable for DK weight yarn, typically in the range of 3.5–4.0 mm, though the specific hook size should be determined based on the desired finished dimensions and personal tension.

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate, this project is suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are comfortable following charts. The corner to corner technique requires understanding how to increase and decrease stitches in a diagonal pattern, as well as the ability to track color changes across multiple rows. Crafters should be familiar with reading graphical charts and managing multiple yarn colors throughout the project.

Pattern Versatility

The designer notes that Instarsia charts can be adapted for use beyond corner to corner crochet. This Santa Teddy chart can be used for traditional knitting or other crochet techniques, offering flexibility for crafters who prefer different construction methods. The interchangeable nature of Instarsia patterns means that experienced fiber artists can apply this festive teddy design to various projects and techniques.
