Product Description
This corner to corner pattern is worked in half double crochets, which allows for less space between each square which makes for a sturdier, more functional washcloth, but you still get the great texture of the corner to corner stitch pattern, and ease in creating the graphic. You'll need some worsted weight cotton yarn - I used LIly Sugar n Cream and Crafters Secret, but Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran and Rico Creative Cotton Aran are good alternatives. Gauge isn't essential, but if you're mixing yarn brands like I did, just make sure they both match each other's gauge - I had to use an H8/5mm hook for Lily Sugar, and an I9/5.5mm hook for Crafters Secret.
C2C Leprechaun Hat Washcloth by Alexandra EyeLoveKnots
Project Overview
This corner to corner crochet washcloth features a festive leprechaun hat design worked in a sturdy, functional format. The pattern combines the visual appeal of corner-to-corner graphing with practical dishcloth construction, making it an ideal project for intermediate crocheters seeking a decorative yet utilitarian kitchen textile.
What Is Being Made
A crocheted washcloth featuring a leprechaun hat graphic design. The finished piece serves as both a decorative and functional dishcloth suitable for kitchen use. The pattern is available in two sizes: a small size and a medium size with adjusted yardage requirements.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
Corner-to-Corner (C2C) Construction: This pattern employs the corner-to-corner technique, a popular method for creating graphical designs in crochet. Rather than working in traditional rows, C2C involves building the fabric diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner, allowing crafters to follow a pixel-like chart to render detailed images.
Half Double Crochet: The pattern is worked entirely in half double crochets, which creates a tighter fabric structure compared to other C2C variations. This stitch choice eliminates gaps between individual boxes, resulting in a denser, more durable washcloth while maintaining the distinctive textured appearance characteristic of C2C work. The half double crochet stitch provides both structural integrity and visual definition for the leprechaun hat graphic.
Materials and Yarn Requirements
Yarn Weight and Yardage: The pattern calls for worsted weight yarn. The small size requires 86 yards total, while the medium size is estimated at 110 yards.
Recommended Yarn: The sample washcloth was created using a combination of cotton yarns: Crafters Secret Cotton in Yellow (4 yards) and Black (11 yards), paired with Lily Sugar n Cream in Green (28 yards) and Ecru (43 yards). Alternative yarn options include Bernat Handicrafter and WeCrochet Dishie, both suitable worsted weight choices for dishcloth projects.
Tools Required: An H8/5mm crochet hook is recommended for working with the suggested yarns. Additional supplies include a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and optional jewelry pliers for finishing details.
Pattern Difficulty and Support
This pattern is rated at intermediate difficulty level, making it appropriate for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle graphical C2C projects. Comprehensive video tutorials are provided to guide crafters through the construction process, with separate instructional videos for Part 1 and Part 2 of the pattern.
