Product Description
While searching through Pinterest for Winter decorating ideas, I came across a gorgeous living room from Wilshire Collections. Right behind her adorable golden retriever sat a throw pillow with the simple word “cozy” on it, and the pillow edge reminded me of a pom pom trim. I fell in love, and knew I wanted to have one of those throw pillows for my home.
I turned to one of my favorite stitch patterns - corner to corner (C2C), picked up a gray pom pom trim from the sewing aisle, and got to work on my envelope style throw pillow. Instructions included for 7 sizes!
Materials You'll Need: Worsted Weight Yarn (I used Red Heart's Super Saver), an H8/5mm Crochet Hook, Tapestry Needle, Pom Pom Trim, and Hot Glue (or Sewing Needle and Thread).
Material Notes: Yarn Alternatives: Caron’s One Pound, Bernat’s Super Value; My two sample pillows were worked to fit 14” and 16” pillow forms, and respectively, I used 375 yards (202 grams), and 460 yards (248 grams).
7 Sizes: 14" up to 27" Square
C2C Cozy Throw Pillow
What is Being Made
The C2C Cozy Throw Pillow is a crocheted throw pillow cover featuring the word "cozy" in a corner-to-corner (C2C) graphgan design. This project creates an envelope-style throw pillow with decorative pom pom trim edging, designed to add a cozy, personalized touch to home décor. The pattern includes instructions for 7 different sizes, allowing crafters to customize the pillow dimensions to their specific needs and preferences.
Techniques Used
This project utilizes the corner-to-corner (C2C) crochet technique, a popular graphgan method that builds fabric diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner. This technique allows crafters to follow pixel-based charts to create graphical designs and text patterns within the crocheted fabric. The C2C method is particularly effective for creating clear, defined imagery and lettering in crochet projects. The pillow is constructed as an envelope-style cover, meaning it features an overlapping closure design that allows for easy insertion and removal of a pillow form. Pom pom trim is sewn along the edges to add a decorative, finished border that enhances the cozy aesthetic.
Stitches Used
While specific stitch details are referenced in the pattern materials section, the C2C technique primarily employs double crochet stitches worked in a diagonal progression. This foundational stitch creates the characteristic square blocks that form the basis of corner-to-corner graphgan work, allowing the crafter to follow color charts and build the "cozy" text design systematically.
Materials
This project requires worsted weight yarn. The pattern creator used Red Heart Super yarn during development. Additional materials include a pom pom trim sourced from the sewing aisle to edge the pillow cover, and an appropriate crochet hook sized for worsted weight yarn. Crafters will also need a pillow form in their chosen size to insert into the completed envelope-style cover.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crafters with foundational crochet knowledge who are ready to tackle graphgan techniques and multi-piece construction. The C2C method requires comfort with following charts and maintaining consistent tension, while the envelope construction adds a finishing technique element.
