Blue Flower Brooch Crochet Pattern
What is Being Made
The Blue Flower Brooch is an original crochet design by LillaBjörnCrochet (designer Tatsiana Kupryianchyk) that creates a decorative flower suitable for multiple applications. This versatile crochet flower can function as a brooch when a safety clasp is attached to the back, or serve as an appliqué embellishment for bags, clothing, pillow covers, and curtains. The finished piece is a charming accessory that combines functionality with decorative appeal.
Craft and Technique
This is a crochet project classified at an intermediate difficulty level, making it suitable for crafters with some prior crochet experience. The pattern uses fundamental crochet techniques to construct a dimensional flower shape. The design demonstrates how basic crochet stitches can be combined to create textured, three-dimensional pieces that can be incorporated into jewelry or home décor applications.
Stitches Used
The Blue Flower Brooch pattern employs essential crochet stitches including:
- Chain (ch) – the foundation stitch used to begin the pattern
- Single crochet (sc) – a basic short stitch for creating dense fabric
- Half double crochet (hdc) – a medium-height stitch for building structure
- Slip stitch (slst) – used to join rounds and connect sections
These stitches are worked in rounds (rnd) to build the flower's circular, petal-based structure.
Materials and Tools
To complete this brooch, you will need 100% cotton yarn in the "Camilla" weight (50g/1.76 oz., 125m/137 yds.). The yarn is classified as fingering weight with a 4 ply texture (14 wpi), providing a delicate finish appropriate for jewelry-scale projects. A 2.75 mm (size C) crochet hook or the appropriate size to achieve proper gauge is required. Additional materials include scissors, a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends, and a safety clasp to be sewn onto the back of the finished flower to convert it into a wearable brooch. American Standard abbreviations are used throughout the pattern instructions.
