Big Knitting

Big Knitting was designed to mimic super-chunky yarn in a stockinette fabric texture, using regular DK yarn and simple rope cables. The beanie looks luxurious and thick but without the bulk (and expense) of real super- chunky yarn. A wide folded brim in a contrasting colour adds another touch of luxury and depth to this cosy wintery staple, peeking out below the cable texture.

Uses 240-260 yards of DK 8ply merino or similar. Sample shown in White Gum Wool organic merino from Tasmania, Australia (hand dyed by Nunnaba Artisan Yarn). You will need a 3.5mm and 4.5mm circular needle on 40cm cables, plus a cable knitting needle of approximately the same diameter. DPNs or a longer cable will be needed to work the crown section. Size will fit most teens/adults: measures 28cm wide at brim (to account for extra bulk with folded section) and 21cm high.
