Product Description
Those horse-drawn, pumpkin carriages can be chilly (to say nothing of cottages in the woods and tall stone towers); so what’s an enchanted princess to wear? These elegant gloves are just the thing under a long cape.
The long cuffs work perfectly well to keep the wind and cold out of your coat sleeves as well.
Construction Notes The round starts at the center back of the hand for these gloves. After working the twisted rib cuff stockinette spreads from the base of the palm and the cable columns and purls on either side are slowly changed over until only the column running up the back of the hand remains.
Notions 3 markers including unique one for thumb gusset tapestry needle for weaving in ends scrap yarn or stitch holder

Bewitching Hour Knitted Gloves by BeckyinVT
What is Being Made
Bewitching Hour is a women's knitted glove pattern available in three sizes: small, medium, and large. These are fitted hand gloves featuring a shaped cuff and tailored hand length, designed to provide a comfortable, custom fit across a range of hand circumferences from 6.25 inches to 9 inches.
Craft and Construction Technique
This is a knitting project worked in the round using double-pointed needles, which allows for seamless construction and shaping. The gloves are constructed beginning at the center back of the hand, with the round progressing from this central point. The design incorporates a shaped thumb gusset that is marked with a unique stitch marker to track increases and shaping. The cuff features a twisted rib construction that provides elasticity and a polished finish, while the hand section transitions into stockinette stitch as the foundation for the decorative stitch pattern.
Stitches and Stitch Pattern Details
The pattern combines several key stitches to create visual interest and structural integrity:
- Twisted rib forms the cuff, providing stretch and a refined edge
- Stockinette stitch creates the smooth fabric base across the palm and hand
- Cable columns run vertically and gradually transition during the hand shaping, with the back-of-hand cable column remaining as the final decorative element
- Purl stitches positioned on either side of the cables add textural contrast and help define the cable pattern
The stitch pattern demonstrates a gradual transition from the cuff through the hand, with decorative elements slowly resolving to emphasize the back-of-hand cable detail.
Materials and Gauge
The pattern calls for Quince & Co Chickadee yarn, a 100% American wool sport-weight yarn with 181 yards per 50-gram skein. The colorway shown is Crocus. Yardage requirements vary by size: 200 yards for small, 270 yards for medium, and 355 yards for large, requiring 2 skeins of yarn.
The working gauge is 23 stitches and 30 rows per 4-inch (10 cm) square in stockinette stitch, which should be achieved using US 3/3.25mm double-pointed needles or the size necessary to obtain the specified gauge.
Additional Notions and Tools
Beyond yarn and needles, the pattern requires 3 stitch markers (including one unique marker designated for the thumb gusset), a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, and scrap yarn or a stitch holder for securing stitches during construction.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate difficulty, this pattern is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are comfortable working in the round with double-pointed needles and managing cable stitches and shaping techniques.
