BARONESSA NOBLE SKIRT: Knitted Cotton Skirt Pattern
What is Being Made
The Baronessa Noble Skirt is a women's knitted skirt crafted from 100% mercerised Egyptian cotton yarn. This downloadable PDF pattern from domoras.com offers five size options ranging from small to xxlarge, with finished waist measurements from 75 cm to 109 cm and hip measurements from 91 cm to 134 cm. The skirt features an adjustable waistband secured with a rubber band, making it adaptable to individual measurements. Skirt length ranges from 53 to 56 cm depending on size, with the option to customize the length to personal preference.
Craft and Techniques
This is a knitting project suitable for beginners, utilizing circular knitting techniques to create a seamless garment. The pattern employs a top-down construction method, beginning at the waistband and working downward to the hem. Circular needles or double-pointed needles are used to work the skirt in the round, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a smooth, continuous fabric. The adjustable rubber band waistband provides comfort and flexibility for a custom fit.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
The primary stitch used throughout the Baronessa Noble Skirt is stocking stitch (stockinette stitch), which creates a smooth, classic knit fabric with a flat appearance on the right side. Stocking stitch is worked in rounds, alternating knit stitches on every round to maintain consistency when working circularly. This fundamental stitch technique is ideal for beginners and produces a refined, elegant drape suitable for a skirt garment.
Yarn and Materials
The recommended yarn is ALCAMO, a 100% mercerised Egyptian cotton available in DK (double knit) weight. Yardage is 250 meters per 100 grams. Yarn quantities required vary by size: small requires 250 grams (625 meters), medium requires 300 grams (750 meters), large requires 350 grams (875 meters), xlarge requires 400 grams (1000 meters), and xxlarge requires 500 grams (1250 meters).
Alternative yarn options include PATONS Washed Cotton DK, LANA GROSSA Cotone, and SCHOELLE, all providing similar weight and fiber content for consistent results.
Needles and Gauge
Three needle sizes are required to complete the Baronessa Noble Skirt:
- Circular needles or double-pointed needles in 2½ mm for the waistband
- Circular needles or double-pointed needles in 3 mm for transition sections
- Circular needles or double-pointed needles in 3½ mm for the main skirt body
The working gauge is 22 stitches and 32 rows per 10 cm (4 inches) measured over stocking stitch on 3½ mm needles after washing. Achieving proper gauge is essential; if stitches appear too loose, switch to finer needles, and if stitches appear too tight, use larger needles. The gauge provided reflects the finished, washed garment measurements.
Additional Materials
One rubber band is required as an accessory for securing the adjustable waistband. This allows the wearer to customize the fit around the waist while maintaining the skirt's intended shape and drape.
