Baby Cardigan DK Knitting Pattern - Angus Baby Raglan Cardigan
What Is Being Made
The Angus Cardigan is a timeless raglan cardigan designed for babies, created by The Old Horizon. This knitting pattern is available as a downloadable PDF and offers five size options to accommodate growing babies: Newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, and 9-12 months. The cardigan is constructed using a top-down knitting method, making it an excellent choice for achieving a custom fit.
Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques that knitters will develop and refine throughout the construction process:
- Top-Down Construction: The Angus Cardigan is knitted from the top-down, allowing knitters to try on the garment as it progresses and adjust the length to their preference.
- Raglan Shaping: The pattern features raglan sleeve construction, which creates diagonal lines from the neckline to the underarms, a classic and flattering design element for baby garments.
- Knit Front and Back (Kfb): This increase technique is used throughout the pattern to shape the raglan sections and create the necessary stitch count for proper fit.
- Circular Needle Knitting: The main body is worked on circular needles in the round, allowing for seamless construction and easy stitch management.
- Magic Loop Method Option: For the sleeves, knitters can choose to use either double-pointed needles or circular needles with the magic loop method, providing flexibility based on personal preference.
Stitches Used
The Angus Cardigan pattern incorporates fundamental knitting stitches suitable for an intermediate skill level:
- Knit (k): The primary stitch forming the main fabric of the cardigan.
- Knit Front and Back (kfb): An increase stitch used for raglan shaping and creating stitch count increases where needed.
- Knit 2 Together (k2tog): A right-leaning decrease stitch used for shaping and stitch reduction.
- Slip Slip Knit (SSK): A left-leaning decrease stitch that pairs with k2tog for balanced shaping.
- Yarn Over (YO): Used to create decorative openings and lace elements within the pattern.
- Rib Stitch: Applied to cuffs and edges for elasticity and a finished appearance.
