Product Description
Hayfield Bonus Baby Changes DK Baby Blankets – Pattern 4600
This downloadable PDF knitting pattern from Hayfield presents four beautifully distinct baby blankets, each worked in the soft and practical Hayfield Bonus Baby Changes DK yarn. The collection offers a wonderful variety of textures and techniques, making it an ideal choice for knitters of varying experience levels who want to create a special, handcrafted gift for a newborn or young baby. Each blanket is a generous, lap-sized piece designed to wrap, swaddle, or decorate a nursery with warmth and style.
Yarn and Materials
All four blankets are knitted using Hayfield Bonus Baby Changes DK (F058), a double knitting weight yarn that is specially formulated with babies in mind. Each blanket is worked in a different self-striping or tonal shade from the range:
- Lace Blanket – shade 571, requiring 3 x 100g balls
- Tuck Stitch Blanket – shade 572, requiring 2 x 100g balls
- Cabled Blanket – shade 569, requiring 2 x 100g balls
- Textured Blanket – shade 563, requiring 2 x 100g balls
The yarn amounts stated are based on average requirements when the specified tension and yarn are used. All four designs are worked on a single pair of 4mm (UK8 / USA6) knitting needles. A cable needle is additionally required for the Cabled Blanket. The use of DK weight yarn on 4mm needles produces a fabric that is firm enough to hold stitch definition beautifully while remaining soft and lightweight — perfect qualities for a baby blanket.
The Lace Blanket
The Lace Blanket measures approximately 61 x 82 cm (24 x 32¼ inches), making it the largest of the four designs. It is worked in Hayfield Bonus Baby Changes DK shade 571. Lace knitting involves the deliberate creation of decorative holes or eyelets within the fabric through the use of yarn-over increases paired with corresponding decreases. The result is an open, delicate, and airy texture that is both elegant and lightweight. Lace patterns in baby blankets are a timeless classic, lending a heirloom quality to the finished piece. The colour-changing nature of the Bonus Baby Changes DK yarn adds a gentle, gradient effect that enhances the lace motifs beautifully without requiring the knitter to manage multiple yarn ends.
Key Techniques and Stitches – Lace Blanket
- Lace pattern featuring yarn-over eyelets and paired decreases
- Knit and purl stitches forming the ground fabric
- Self-striping colour effect from the Bonus Baby Changes DK yarn
The Tuck Stitch Blanket
The Tuck Stitch Blanket measures approximately 61 x 76 cm (24 x 30 inches) and is worked in Hayfield Bonus Baby Changes DK shade 572. Tuck stitch is a distinctive knitting technique that creates a richly textured, slightly raised surface. It typically involves slipping stitches over a number of rows and then working them together, which gathers the fabric and produces a puckered or tucked effect. This results in a blanket with wonderful tactile interest and a cosy, padded quality — ideal for keeping a baby snug and comfortable. The technique adds visual depth that is further enhanced by the tonal colour shifts of the Bonus Baby Changes yarn.

- Slip stitch methods to build the tuck effect

Happy
The yarn was perfect. It was an easy 4 row pattern which was easy to grasp and therefore portable. I was able to do it while visiting with others. The drop stitch was a wonderful effect making the blanket seem warm and "plump"
