Product Description

Die Anleitung ist in Deutsch erhältlich. The English translation is available now!

I knitted two variations on one design. For the first one I used Noro, for the other one the yarns I mentioned above. So the pattern reminds of a painting or mosaic.

Autumn Wind with Variations: Beginner Knit Shawl Pattern

Project Overview

Autumn Wind with Variations is a downloadable knitting pattern designed by Bonita for creating elegant shawls. This beginner-friendly design offers multiple construction variations, allowing knitters to customize their finished piece through yarn and color selection. The pattern produces a rectangular shawl suitable for layering and everyday wear.

Variation 1: Classic Sock Yarn Shawl

The first variation creates a shawl measuring 50 cm x 200 cm using a single yarn throughout. This version demonstrates how consistent yarn weight and color create a unified, streamlined aesthetic.

Materials for Variation 1:

  • Yarn: Noro Taiyo Sock Yarn, 300g total yardage (420 m per 100g)
  • Color combination: Two similar shades blended together—200g in Color S37 and 100g in Color S30
  • Fiber content: 50% cotton, 17% wool, 17% polyamid, 16% silk
  • Needles: 3.5 mm

This variation uses a blended two-color approach with the Noro Taiyo Sock Yarn, a versatile yarn that combines natural fibers with synthetic content for durability and drape. The sock yarn weight creates a fabric with excellent stitch definition while remaining lightweight enough for comfortable wear.

Variation 2: Multi-Color Mohair and Silk Shawl

The second variation showcases a more complex color palette, incorporating up to six distinct yarns and colors to create visual depth and interest. This version demonstrates advanced color work possibilities while maintaining beginner-level construction techniques.

Materials for Variation 2:

  • Color 1 (Main): Schulana Kid-Seta jubile, 75g in gray-blue-red blend (210 m per 25g), composed of 70% mohair and 30% silk
  • Color 2: Schulana Kid-Seta uni, 25g in rose (210 m per 25g), 70% kid-mohair and 30% silk
  • Color 3: Schulana Kid-Seta uni, 25g in light blue (210 m per 25g), 70% kid-mohair and 30% silk
  • Color 4: Glamour Kid-Seta-Lace, 25g in light gray (212.5 m per 25g), 70% kid-mohair and 30% silk
  • Color 5: Schulana Kid-Seta uni, 25g in dusty rose (210 m per 25g), 70% kid-mohair and 30% silk
  • Color 6: Online Linie 325 Sunlace, 50g in anthracite (255 m per 50g), composed of 40% cotton, 33% polyacrylic, and 27% polyamid
  • Additional embellishment: Artyarns beaded silk sequin yarn (specific yardage and weight to be determined from full pattern)

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

As a beginner-level pattern, Autumn Wind with Variations employs fundamental knitting techniques accessible to newer crafters. The rectangular shawl construction likely utilizes basic stitch patterns that create visual interest without requiring complex colorwork or advanced shaping techniques.

The pattern demonstrates how yarn substitution and color blocking can dramatically alter a design's appearance. Knitters can achieve different aesthetics by choosing between a monochromatic approach (as in Variation 1) or a multi-colored composition (as in Variation 2), both using identical construction methods.

Yarn Characteristics and Fiber Blends

Both variations showcase the versatility of luxury fiber blends. The Noro Taiyo Sock Yarn in Variation 1 combines natural fibers (cotton, wool, silk) with synthetics (polyamid) to create a yarn that is both breathable and resilient. The sock yarn weight provides excellent stitch clarity and drape suitable for shawl construction.

Variation 2 emphasizes mohair and silk combinations, which create exceptional drape and a luxurious hand. Mohair contributes volume and loft
