Aurelia Shawl

This shawl starts at the tip and works up and out to the long edge. You may recognize the fan motif from other patterns, but those are worked from the narrowest part of the fan to the wider bottoms. To work from the long edge of a shawl, you could be chaining up to 300 chains to start, and you have to know how much yarn you need ahead of time. With this design you can start which scraps and keep adding on, or you can start with one skein and keep adding new ones until you get the width you want. The original fan motif comes from a hand-drawn original which has no source or name for it’s creator. Indeed, it could be a vintage motif. I felt confident I could update this motif by completing working it in the opposite direction and making it join-as-you-go.
