This project is primarily an embroidery design that incorporates hand-stitching onto felt fabric. The ornament combines traditional embroidery methods with bead and sequin embellishment techniques, creating texture and visual interest through the layering of stitched elements and decorative findings.
Stitches and Embroidery Techniques Used
The design employs embroidery stitching techniques applied to felt as the base fabric. A specialized sequin and bead attachment method is featured, where faceted sequins are threaded onto the needle from the reverse side of the felt, positioned so the sequin face points upward toward the needle tip. Round beads are then threaded above each sequin, and the combination is slid down the thread onto the felt surface before being secured with a backstitch through the sequin hole. This technique creates dimensional embellishment while maintaining structural integrity.
Materials and Supplies
The ornament requires two pieces of pink felt measuring 12x20cm and two pieces of light blue felt measuring 15x10cm, with a minimum thickness of 1mm for stability. Embroidery is worked using Anchor Stranded Cotton in shades #01090 and #00033, Anchor Marlitt in colors #01055, #01013, and #01019, and Anchor Lamé in shade #00301. The project incorporates 22 faceted 5mm silver sequins and 22 clear round 2mm beads for embellishment. A size 5 embroidery needle is recommended for stitching.
