Product Description
This is a knitting pattern for an Among Us character toy. Among Us is an online game played by younger children - and some adults - where you try to guess the imposter. I made this pattern to create characters for my granddaughters and their school friends.
Among Us Character Knitted Toy
What is Being Made
This is a knitted stuffed toy pattern for an Among Us character, designed by Knitting Knut. The finished toy stands approximately 18cm tall and features the iconic rounded body shape of the popular online game character. The pattern includes instructions for creating the main body, a backpack detail, and optional head decoration elements, making it a complete character representation suitable for play or display.
Techniques and Construction
The Among Us character is constructed using fundamental knitting techniques accessible to beginners. The pattern employs stocking stitch throughout, which creates a smooth, classic fabric ideal for toys. Stocking stitch alternates knit rows on the right side with purl rows on the wrong side, producing the characteristic V-pattern texture that works well for stuffed projects.
The toy is worked in separate sections that are then assembled. The main body and backpack component requires approximately 30g of yarn. The eye section is knitted separately using a contrasting grey yarn, allowing for clear definition of the character's distinctive features. This modular approach makes the pattern manageable for knitters new to toy construction.
The pattern includes flexibility for customization. Head decoration options are provided, acknowledging that different Among Us characters feature varying decorative elements. Knitters are encouraged to adapt the design by adding more or fewer decorative leaves or creating their own variations, making each toy unique.
Stitches Used
- Knit (K) – the fundamental stitch forming the base of stocking stitch
- Purl (P) – alternated with knit stitches to create stocking stitch fabric
- Kfb (knit in front and back) – used for increasing stitches to shape the toy
Materials and Tools
The pattern calls for 3.5mm single pointed needles, which are standard needles suitable for double knit weight yarn. The designer used Paintbox Simply Double Knit yarn for the main construction, though the pattern notes that any double knitting yarn will work equally well. Double knit (DK) weight yarn is a medium-weight option that creates fabric with good drape and structure, ideal for toys that need to hold their shape when stuffed.
The main body and backpack require approximately 30g of the primary color yarn, with additional oddments of contrasting grey yarn needed for the eye details. Toy stuffing is required to complete the project, though this is not included in the pattern materials list.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern notes that tension is not critical for toy construction, as the primary concern is preventing stuffing from showing through loose stitches. Knitters should ensure their tension is tight enough to contain the filling material effectively. The standard finished height is 18cm, but the pattern accommodates size adjustments. To create a larger version, knitters can use a heavier yarn weight paired with correspondingly larger needles, allowing for easy customization based on preference.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as beginner-friendly, making it an excellent introduction to toy knitting. The straightforward stocking stitch construction and simple shaping techniques require only basic knitting skills. The modular assembly approach and clear abbreviations support new knitters in successfully completing their first stuffed toy project.
