Product Description
This is an easy amigurumi pattern to make an amigurumi cthulhu. Advanced beginner to Intermediate level. It uses two different colors of yarn. Worsted weight yarn and a G hook are suggested, but substitutions can be made. Gauge not important. Finished size with worsted weight yarn and G hook is about 6 inches tall. Example uses I love this yarn, but any worted weight yarn could be subtituted.
Amigurumi Cthulhu Crochet Pattern by Aria Raymond
What Is Being Made
This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for crocheting an Amigurumi Cthulhu toy, a small stuffed creature standing approximately five inches tall. The design captures the classic tentacled appearance of Cthulhu in a beginner-friendly amigurumi style, making it an accessible introduction to three-dimensional crochet toy construction.
Difficulty Level and Time Commitment
Designed as a beginner project, this pattern is straightforward and quick to complete. Experienced crocheters can typically finish the entire toy in a couple of hours, while those newer to crochet may require additional time due to the assembly of multiple separate pieces. The pattern itself avoids complex techniques, making it suitable for crafters building their skills in amigurumi construction.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches Used
The pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginners. The body and arms are worked in the round using single crochet, a basic stitch that creates tight, dense fabric ideal for stuffed toys. The tentacles and wings utilize double crochet, a slightly taller stitch that adds textural variety to the finished piece. This combination of stitches demonstrates how varying stitch heights can create visual and structural interest within a single project.
Working in the round is a core amigurumi technique that allows crafters to build three-dimensional forms without seaming. Single crochet's tight construction prevents stuffing from showing through, while the double crochet elements provide decorative detail and movement to the tentacle and wing sections.
Materials and Tools Required
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors (pattern uses dark green and light green, though any color combination works)
- Hook: G (4.0mm) crochet hook, or size appropriate to your chosen yarn and personal tension
- Stuffing: Fiberfill or polyester stuffing for filling the completed toy
- Eyes: Buttons (approximately 1/4 inch) or safety eyes (10-12mm), with cat eye style recommended for best appearance
- Additional supplies: Scissors, stitch marker for tracking rounds
Color and Customization Options
While the pattern features dark green and light green yarns, crafters have complete flexibility in color selection. The two-color construction allows for creative personalization—any contrasting color combination can be substituted to match individual preferences or available yarn stash. This adaptability makes the pattern suitable for gift-giving with custom color choices.
Assembly and Construction Notes
The Amigurumi Cthulhu consists of multiple crocheted pieces that require assembly. Beginners should anticipate that assembly time contributes to the overall project duration, as joining separate body parts, arms, tentacles, and wings requires careful attention to create a cohesive finished toy. The modular construction approach is typical of amigurumi design and allows crafters to work on manageable sections before combining them into the final form.
