Product Description

Alice The 2nd is a colour-block knitted pillow patter, own design by Blue Balloon Atelier. The pattern looks great on it’s own but also goes well with other Alice designs, as they complement each other really well.

The pattern is bold enough to make a statement in your home, but easy enough to knit the whole pillowcase in a day or two, while sipping your favourite tea.

Deramores Studio Chunky Acrylic was used to create this sample, but any chunky yarn [acrylic or wool, or combination with wool preferably], suitable for 7-9mm knitting needles, can be used.

Alice The 2nd Knitted Pillowcase by Kasia Ancuta

Project Overview

Alice The 2nd is a modern and quirky knitted pillow cover design created by independent designer Kasia Ancuta through Blue Balloon Atelier. This downloadable knitting pattern produces a finished cushion cover measuring approximately 40x40cm (16x16 inches), making it suitable for standard throw pillow inserts. The design combines contemporary aesthetics with accessible intermediate-level knitting techniques.

Craft and Construction Method

This project is created entirely through knitting, a versatile fiber craft that builds fabric by interlocking loops of yarn with needles. Knitting allows for precise control over fabric density and texture, which is particularly important in this pattern's construction approach. The designer has specifically chosen to use smaller needles than typical yarn recommendations to achieve a firmer, more durable final product—a consideration that enhances the pillowcase's longevity and structural integrity.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

Yarn Weight: Chunky and super chunky weight yarns are used for this project. The pattern documentation references Deramores Studio Chunky Acrylic yarn as the yarn used during pattern development. While this yarn is conventionally paired with 9mm needles according to manufacturer recommendations, the pattern specifies using 7mm needles instead to create a denser, more resilient fabric better suited to functional home décor items like pillow covers.

Needles: 7mm knitting needles are required to achieve the firm fabric density specified in the pattern instructions.

Skill Level and Techniques

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, indicating it requires foundational knitting knowledge and familiarity with standard knitting techniques. Crafters should be comfortable with basic stitches and have experience reading knitting patterns before beginning this project.

Design and Finished Product

The completed pillowcase reflects Blue Balloon Atelier's design philosophy of modern and quirky aesthetics. The 40x40cm dimensions make this cover compatible with standard throw pillows, suitable for adding contemporary flair to living spaces, bedrooms, or seating areas.
